Uintah County

As of 2000 the population was 25,224 and by 2009 was estimated at 31,536. It was named for the Ute Indians, the tribe that lives in the basin. Its county seat and largest city is Vernal.[1] Located just outside Vernal, the Vernal-Uintah County Airport provides daily scheduled air service to Denver, Colorado.

Vernal is one of the largest cities in the United States without a railway. One was proposed in the past, with a railway station being built. There is still a railway approximately 60 miles away from city limits. Railways are used for coal being delivered to the power plant and the transportation of gilsonite, a former major part of the economy in the area.

Naples is a city in Uintah County, in the Vernal metro area. The community was named for the city in Italy. The latitude of Naples is 40.426N. The longitude is -109.498W. It is in the Mountain Standard time zone. Elevation is 5,230 feet.The estimated population, in 2003, was 1,411.

The mission of Uintah Basin Applied Technology College (UBATC) is to provide technical education and training for secondary and adult students, to fulfill labor market needs, and to promote the economic development in the Uintah Basin.

Northeastern Utah is a vast area with more to see and do than anyone can experience in a single trip. Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a haven for boaters and fishermen alike, and surrounded by grand rocky shoreline as it is, it's also popular with hikers.

Started in 1987 as a private, nonprofit organization, EDCUtah is a public/private partnership, working with state and local government and private industry to attract and grow competitive, high-value companies and spur the development and expansion of local Utah businesses.

The Governor's Office of Economic Development charter is based on Governor Herbert's commitment to economic development statewide. The mandate for this office is to provide rich business resources for the creation, growth and recruitment of companies to Utah and to increase tourism and film production in the state.
